About Seeding Sustainable Communities

This project works to build community spirit and encourage more environmentally friendly behaviour in new housing developments in Peterborough.

Project staff visit residents to conduct a short Community Survey, before presenting them with a free Sustainable Living Welcome Bag. This bag contains:

  • information about environmental issues
  • information about the local community.
  • free environmental goods including:
    - energy efficient light bulbs
    - fat trap
    - recycled mouse mat
    - Ecover products
    - vegetable seeds
    - reusable shopping bag.

The survey is designed to identify current behavioural patterns, environmental interests, and community needs. Project staff then work with a number of partner organisations to try and meet these needs.

The Seeding Sustainable Communities Project also arranges environmental events and activities within the communities, in response to the interests expressed by the residents.

The three year pilot project has now reached an end. It has achieved its target of 950 surveys in Hampton and the Sugar Way Estate. Thank you to all of the residents who have been involved. The project is now evaluating its work through follow up surveys. If you have been involved in the project and would like to fill out a follow up survey please click on the relevant link below.
